Maharashtra polls: 26 BJP candidates file nominations on Thursday

Mumbai, Oct 24 (IANS) A total of 26 candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday filed their nomination papers for the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The BJP had released its first list of 99 candidates on Sunday (October 20).

Among the candidates who filed nominations are Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil (Kothrud), Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil (Shirdi), Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha (Malabar Hill) and Tribal Development Minister Vijayakumar Gavit (Nandurbar).

The party nominee from Vile Parle, Parag Alwani, filed his nomination form at Samajkalyan Hall in Airport Colony on Thursday.

He was accompanied by party legislator Praveen Darekar , Uttar Pradesh MLA Ratan Pal Singh , District Vice President Rajesh Mehta and Shiv Sena leader, Subhash Kanta Sawant.

Amit Satam, who was re-nominated from Andheri West Constituency, Mihir Kotecha from Mulund Constituency, Atul Bhatkhalkar from Kandivali East Constituency also filed their nominations in the presence of a large number of MahaYuti workers.

Further, Kalidas Kolambakar from Wadala constituency, Jayakumar Rawal from Shindkheda constituency, Anup Agarwal from Dhule constituency, Kashiram Pavara fromShirpur constituency, Pratap Adsad from Dhamangaon railway constituency and Sameer Kunawar from Hinganghat constituency also filed their nominations.

Also, Vinod Agarwal from Gondia constituency, Ashok Uke from Ralegaon, Bhimrao Keram from Kinwat, Tanhaji Mutkule from Hingoli, Narayan Kuche from Badnapur , Prashant Bamb from Gangapur, Rana Jagjitsinh Patil from Tuljapur, Subhash Deshmukh from Solapur South, Atul Bhosle from Karad South, Amal Mahadik from Kolhapur South and Sudhir Dada Gadgil filed their nomination paper for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, NCP ministers Chhagan Bhujbal (Yevala), Dilip Walse-Patil (Ambegaon) and Dhananjay Munde (Parali) also filed their nominations on Thursday.

Elections for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 20.

The prime contest will be mainly between the MahaYuti - the BJP, Nationalist Congress Party and the Shiv Sena - and the Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party-Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena-UBT.

The ballots will be conducted on November 23.
